Senator Schmitt Amendment to Prevent COVID-19 Vaccine Mandates on Any Common Publicly Available Transportation Passes Committee

The Amendment prohibits any common carrier – including commercial airlines – from denying an individual who lawfully purchased a ticket to travel from boarding a plane based on their COVID-19 vaccination status.

WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Eric Schmitt released a statement following the introduction and passage of a critical amendment in this year’s FAA reauthorization to protect Americans from COVID-19 mandates:

“Draconian vaccine mandates that were pushed by Joe Biden and Democrats have no place in today’s world. This amendment protects Americans – regardless of vaccine status – from being compelled to share private medical information with an airliner simply to board a plane to visit family members or share in vacation with loved ones. It’s time to leave COVID tyranny in the past and restore the flying public’s ability to make their own health decisions, not companies or the government,” said Senator Eric Schmitt.

BACKGROUND:

  • As Missouri’s Attorney General, Senator Schmitt was a leader on pushing back on COVID-19 lockdowns and mandates.
  • In 2023, Senator Schmitt introduced the End COVID Tyranny Act to stop the abuses by the federal government experienced during the last few years.
  • This amendment prohibits common carriers, who provide interstate transportation of passengers and are subject to regulation by the federal government, from denying service to an individual based on their COVID-19 vaccination status.
