ERIC SCHMITT, Senator for Missouri

WASHINGTON – Today, Senator Eric Schmitt released the following statement before Joseph R. Biden v. Nebraska is set to be argued before the Supreme Court of the United States.

“The President of the United States has no authority to unilaterally cancel nearly a trillion dollars of student loan debt. This action by the Biden Administration is a slap in the face to those who chose not to take on debt, or worked hard and saved to pay off that debt. Why should the truck driver and the waitress have to cover the unpaid bills of the tenured professor with a theater degree?” said Senator Eric Schmitt. “Further, this attempted cancellation of student loan debt would add to the deficit and saddle hard-working Missourians and Americans with even more economic woes. I am proud to have originally led the effort in this case as Missouri’s attorney general, and I’m confident Missouri and all states involved will win this legal battle before the nation’s highest court.”
