Senator Schmitt’s Resolution Marking One Year Anniversary of Trump Assassination Attempt, Condemning Political Violence Passes the U.S. Senate

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt’s (R-MO) resolution solemnly marking the one-year anniversary of the failed assassination attempt against President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania passed the Senate. The resolution also honors the victims of the shootings in Butler and Minnesota and condemns political violence of any kind.

“On July 13, 2024, our nation witnessed the horrifying assassination attempt against President Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. As we remember the tragedy that unfolded, we must stand together to unequivocally oppose political violence against elected officials and condemn the divisive rhetoric that has fueled the rise of such hatred. My resolution makes clear that political violence has no place in our democracy and reaffirms the need for civility, respect, and the peaceful exchange of ideas. The United States is stronger when we stand together – even when we don’t agree politically,” said Senator Eric Schmitt.
