Senator Schmitt Introduces Bill to Establish New Oversight for Public Health Institutions
WASHINGTON –Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) released the following statement after Introducing the Improving National Safety, Public health, Ethics, and Clinical Trials (INSPECT) Act, which will create new Inspectors General positions for three major public health agencies including, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA):
“Americans’ trust in our public health institutions is at an all-time low since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. From draconian mandates to free speech censorship by ‘scientific experts’, our public health institutions have done more harm than good for hardworking Americans. Gone are the times of woke DEI focused research, it’s time the government works for the people, and my bill will ensure these agencies are doing just that,” said Senator Eric Schmitt.
Background
