WASHINGTON – Senator Schmitt appeared on Fox Business’ Varney & Company earlier today to discuss President Trump’s strength on the world stage.

Sen. Schmitt on President Trump’s Golden Dome Proposal:
“I think it’s a great idea, and I think it’s also representative of this shift we’re seeing in the American foreign policy that I’m glad to see, which is a shift to American realism, meaning that we understand what our core national interests are, principally defending the homeland and recognizing that we must win this global powers, this great powers competition with China. This will define the 21st century: who wins that, is it the United States of America or Communist China? So, the Golden Dome represents that, getting back to core national interests. It also recognizes scarcity. We live in a resource scarce world…Where we cannot be everywhere all at once all the time. We have to rely on our European partners to pony up more for their own defense. You saw a report where some of the Baltic states are actually trying to do that, Germany is not, many other European countries are not. They need to step up for their own defense, we need to focus on the homeland and China, and I think it’s a prioritization that President Trump is putting forward, and the Golden Dome is a good way to talk about that.”
Sen. Schmitt on Peace Deal Between Russia and Ukraine:
“This is the Peace President. You didn’t see wars happening when President Trump was President the first time. Then of course, you saw America disrespected around the world, including Vladimir Putin moving into Ukraine, so President Trump, quite literally is the only person on the planet, the United States of America is the only country on the planet that can broker this kind of peace. And that’s the focus. The truth is, this is a meat grinder right now in Ukraine, and it needs to come to an end. The United States has more pressing needs, taking on China and defending the homeland. And it’s time for our European allies to play a much more meaningful role in their own defense in Europe. However, the United States plays an important role, and President Trump specifically, in bringing lasting peace. That’s what they’re working on, so both parties need to work towards that as well.”
Sen. Schmitt on Strikes Against the Houthis:
“Finally, we’ve got a President that’s sticking up for America’s interests and that’s an important interest of the United States to make sure we have free navigation. And by the way, that benefits the rest of the Free World as well.”
Sen. Schmitt on the Iranian Threat:
“I don’t think it’s acceptable that Iran would ever have a nuclear weapon. You talk about the de-stabilization, with the Ayatollah having a nuclear weapon with the stated purpose of destroying the United States of America, death to America, and wiping Israel off the map. That’s just an unacceptable outcome, and there’s a lot of things I think that can be done before that ever happens.”
