ICYMI: Senator Schmitt Joins Fox News to Applaud Trump’s Greenland Framework, Calls on Europe to Step Up for Their Own Defense

Schmitt Praises Trump’s Foreign Policy Pivot, Powerful Speech Before Globalists in Davos

WASHINGTON — Last night, U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) appeared on Fox News’ Ingraham Angle to discuss the Greenland framework President Trump negotiated, his powerful speech before globalists in Davos, and once again urged our European allies to more meaningfully invest in their own defense while the U.S. focuses on the Indo-Pacific and countering China.

Senator Schmitt on Trump’s Greenland Framework, Davos Speech:

“I don’t want to get too far in front of where the White House is at and what they want to announce. But this [framework] gets us exactly where we want to be, which is the security that we need to protect the homeland. It can’t be overstated, Laura — you’ve talked about it, I’ve talked about it — how important that real estate is. Whether it’s our ballistic missile defense, the architecture we need for space as we continue down that road, the Arctic sea lanes that potentially open. China, Russia, have operations off the coast of Greenland. There are transatlantic cables right off the coast of Greenland. So, it gives us the ability to protect the homeland and the Western Hemisphere. It also is likely to lead to rare earth and rare mineral exploration, which is really important. We’re way too reliant on China. 80-90 percent of all those materials come from China for things that we need to build F-15s. That’s unacceptable. I think it will go a long way, the investment to solve some of the supply chain problems we have with rare earth. So, taking a step back, look at what has happened in the last year. Panama Canal, making sure the Chinese don’t control both ports, making sure a narcoterrorist isn’t sending criminals to this country in Venezuela. Now, with Greenland, the President is prioritizing the homeland and the Western Hemisphere, as he promised as an American foreign policy realist.”

“[President Trump] went into Davos, into the lion’s den, right, and told the Europeans what they don’t want to hear. But it’s the truth — the world is safer when America is leading. And we finally have a President that puts America’s interests first. This sort of post-Cold War order that permanent Washington loves, the cocktail parties, and they talk about all this stuff. President Trump doesn’t care about any of that. He cares about protecting the American people, and he went into Davos and he worked a [framework] that will make us safer.”

Senator Schmitt Calls on Europe to Step Up Their Own Defense:

“Well, that’s right. And, since 1980, the imbalance between what we spend in other NATO countries is $22 trillion. There’s a rebalancing that has to happen. Europe has to step up in a much more meaningful way for their own defense so we can focus on the Western Hemisphere in the rise of China and the Indo-Pacific. That’s just the truth that is a reality to anybody’s been paying attention. It’s amazing the sort of stages of grief that I think a lot of our NATO allies have go through to accept that reality. This isn’t 1960s anymore, right? We are moving towards an era where the great powers competition between us and Communist China is how the 21st century is going to be decided. The early detection that we need to have in the Arctic for our own defense is very, very important. And again, that’s why President Trump was so focused on it. When I was talking to him, I knew, just like you did, this was the real deal. He wasn’t messing around here. He knows how important it is, and that’s why he is working as hard as he was working.”

Senator Schmitt on Democrats’ Trump Derangement Syndrome:

“Think the outrage is the point. They’re so addicted to the outrage, like the people with [Trump Derangement Syndrome], they just feel like they have to get so upset at everything he does. They can’t see the maneuvering that he’s doing to get to an outcome at the end of the day. This foreign policy pivot that President Trump has been able to execute that’s long overdue, is exactly in line with where the American people are at. When I’m at home in Missouri talking to people, they love the fact that there’s a President standing up for us, he isn’t just giving things away to other people halfway around the world.”
