Senator Schmitt on Newsmax: “We’re Back Baby!”
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) appeared on Newsmax’s American Agenda this afternoon to discuss the One Big Beautiful Bill, strengthening Medicaid for individuals with disabilities, and President Trump’s successful start to his second term.

Watch the full interview HERE.
Schmitt on the Senate’s Big Beautiful Bill Vote-A-Rama:
“It’s more like Thunderdome than Vote-a-rama. You get in there and there’s just a bunch of amendments that are happening probably every 15, 20 minutes, and that pace will pick up as we get into the evening and maybe even into the wee hours of the morning. Based on the statute that we’re operating under the reconciliation process, once you get past the 20 hours of debate, it’s unlimited amendments. And so that’s kind of where we go here. The Democrats are trying to score some political points, but it’s just tired old rhetoric quite honestly. This bill is going to deliver for the American people. You’ve got no tax on tips. You’ve got no tax on overtime. You’ve got the largest tax cut in American history preserved. The Democrats would actually be voting for the largest tax increase in the history of the country by voting no on this. You also have money to secure the border. More ICE agents, more detention beds for mass deportations. You got money for our military. You got money for allowing people to save more for their college tuition. For individuals with disabilities–there’s provisions in here to make sure those safety nets are strengthened. So all in all, this is a big, beautiful big bill and a big, beautiful win for the American people. And we hope to get through that tonight.”
Schmitt on Strengthening Medicaid for the Most Vulnerable:
“There’s only one class of individuals that are going to lose their benefits. It’s, as you said, 1.5 million illegals who currently get taxpayer benefits. They shouldn’t. They’ll no longer be able to do that. And then also, if you’re an able bodied adult, there are work requirements…So the rest of it is smoke and mirrors, but it is important, we are actually strengthening it for individuals who need it most. It was originally designed, of course, for pregnant moms, poor kids and individuals with disabilities. We have provisions in there to make sure that they’re actually protected. And the Democrats, they don’t want to talk about that. They want to make up things that aren’t true. But ultimately, this strengthens Medicaid for those who need it most and kicks illegal immigrants off those taxpayer funded benefits.”
Schmitt on Recent Wins by President Trump:
“It’s pretty remarkable, I mean, President Trump’s week last week –think about that successful sort of peace through strength with the targeted Iran strike, then pivoting to peace, being welcomed at NATO, they’re going to step up their game for their own defense. Then you had the big Supreme Court wins, of course, which was that you’re not going to have these universal injunctions along with other issues that are out there. Now, you’re going to have the Big Beautiful Bill. Then you’re going to have the rescissions package, then you’re going to have these trade deals. This is pretty unprecedented. It’s a good time to be an American. We’re back baby.”
